Nigerian Presidential Aide Outlines Youth Empowerment Strategy at National Conference
In a powerful address at the GetWork Nigeria National Conference held in Yaba, Lagos State, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement emphasized the nation’s commitment to empowering youth through skills development, employment readiness, and career advancement. Returning from Finland, where he studied the Finnish educational system’s best practices, the Senior Special Assistant joined other distinguished panelists and guest speakers to discuss pathways to harness Nigeria’s youth potential.
Speaking to an audience of young Nigerians, esteemed guests, and education leaders, the Senior Special Assistant highlighted the critical role of preparing youth for the workforce to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader agenda of economic growth and national development. “Empowering our youth through skill-building, employability, and career growth is essential for Nigeria’s future,” he stated. “My principal, President Tinubu GCFR, has been committed to this vision at every level.”
He outlined three fundamental pillars for youth empowerment:
Skills Development: Stressing the importance of equipping youth with in-demand digital skills, he called for a broad approach to skills acquisition, including vocational training programs across diverse industries. “We need to prepare our young people for the global market, with not only technical skills but also essential life skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.”
Employment Readiness: To close the gap between education and employment, the Senior Special Assistant urged for hands-on experiences through internships and career counseling. “Internships and guidance are crucial for young people to understand the workforce and make informed decisions about their futures,” he added.
Career Advancement: Recognizing the value of long-term career growth, he proposed mentorship programs to connect young professionals with seasoned experts and highlighted the importance of continuous training, certifications, and industry partnerships to open new job opportunities.
In his concluding remarks, the Senior Special Assistant connected Nigeria’s youth empowerment mission to the global stage, citing the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. “As we empower our youth, we must align with the 17 Global Goals that drive sustainable progress. Together, we can build a brighter future for Nigerian youth.”
The GetWork Nigeria National Conference provided a platform for leaders, policymakers, and youth advocates to share insights on fostering employability and entrepreneurship, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to youth-led economic growth.
