Hardship: Bauchi Senator Stripped Of Traditional Title for Criticising Governor
The Bauchi Emirate Council has revoked the traditional title of ‘Majidadin Bauchi’ from Senator Shehu Umar Buba due to alleged disrespect towards Governor Bala Mohammed.
Senator Buba, who represents Bauchi South in the National Assembly and belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC), criticised the governor, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for his comments on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s speech during the #EndBadGovernance protests.
Governor Mohammed said Tinubu’s speech lacked substance, but Senator Buba defended the president, stating that the governor was not on the same political level as the president.
He further accused Governor Mohammed of causing hardship in Bauchi State by failing to distribute 70 trucks of guinea corn, 70 trucks of fertiliser, and 20 trucks of rice donated by the Nigerian government.
In response, the governor’s media adviser, Mukhtar Gidado, denied the allegations, clarifying that the aid would be distributed for free and that a committee led by the Emir of Jama’are had been set up to oversee the distribution.
The Emirate Council formally stripped Senator Buba of his title on August 14 2024. In a letter signed by Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Emirate’s Secretary, the council cited the senator’s actions as disrespectful and humiliating towards the governor, which they deemed inconsistent with the values and traditions of the Bauchi Emirate.
The decision was reached during a council meeting chaired by the Emir of Bauchi on Wednesday
