Hon. Bello Buhari Appeals For Calm, Dialogue Over Nationwide Protests
Hon. Amb. Bello Buhari Ibrahim, A Diplomat and a Advisory member of African Union Ecosoc in Nigeria has called on Nigerian youths to create room for dialogue with President Tinubu over Thier demands which led to nationwide protests.
Responding to newsmen in Abuja on the need for dialogue between protesters and government. Hon. Bello Buhari stated thus “the world has borne witness to the power and necessity of dialogue especially in the face of unrest as dialogue has led to transformative change and peace-building across many regions plagued by discord, hence, the current social climate in Nigeria has underscored that peaceful communication is not merely a luxury but an essential tool for conflict resolution”.
“The protest in Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Kastina and other states which turned violent serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of civil discourse amid widespread discontent, I was shocked to learn that some youths reportedly descended on public and private properties looting them with reckless abandon. This level of violence depicted a sharp deviation from the intended purpose of the demonstration which should always aim to express dissent peacefully and constructively”.
“It’s obvious that protests often serve as a manifestation of collective frustrations stemming from issues like poverty and social inequality. As I reflect on the reasons driving people to the streets, it becomes evident that systemic inequalities and failing economy often lay at the root of these frustrations. The correlation between poverty and civil unrest is a poignant issue that cannot be overlooked. addressing these economic disparities is crucial to mitigating future protests”.
Hon. Bello called on Nigerian government at all levels to intensify it’s initiatives focusing on education, housing, health care, and job creation which are aimed at reducing poverty levels and enhancing the lives of poor Nigerians.
