Children went to Farms instead School, Gov. Bala blames parents for low school attendance

Bauchi State government has decried the attitude of parents and guardians in not sending their children back to school after resumption from holidays.

KATAGUM DAILYPOST reports that the attitude is more pronounced at the grassroots, with parents and guardians sending their children to farms instead of making sure they attend school.

State Commissioner for Education, Jamlila Dahiru stated this while inspecting school attendance during a tour of about three local governments – Alakeri, Dass and Tafawa Balewa.

She said that the exercise is part of the routine monitoring of schools to ascertain the condition of the learning process towards ensuring quality education in the state

The Commissioner also warned school teachers to discharge their primary assigned responsibilities diligently for the smooth running of the education system in the state.

On the issues of school enrollment and student attendance especially in the Duguri Community, the native community of the state governor, Dahiru expressed dissatisfaction with the low enrollment of students despite Governor Bala Mohammad’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for learning and teaching.

The commissioner stressed the need for parents, guardians, teachers and students to fully support government efforts to reshape the education system in the state.
