Maikaba Praises Wikki Tourists for Impressive Performance at GusauAhlan Preseason Competition
Wikki Tourists FC Technical Adviser, Abdu Maikaba, has expressed deep satisfaction with his team’s performance at the recently concluded GusauAhlan Preseason Competition held in Jos.
The Bauchi-based team displayed remarkable tenacity and skill, culminating in a narrow loss to Lobi Stars in the final.
Speaking to sports journalists after the intense final, which ended 1-1 in regulation time and was decided by a 3-4 penalty shootout, Maikaba commended his players for their resilience.
“We are barely two weeks together after the last season break before coming for this Championship, and look at what they did,” Maikaba said, emphasizing the commendable efforts of his team.
The seasoned coach highlighted the importance of maintaining the current momentum, character, and mentality, expressing optimism about the team’s chances of returning to the Nigeria Premier League.
“If the tempo, character, and mentality are maintained, there is high hope for our quest to return to the Nigeria Premier League soonest,” he added.
Maikaba also assured that he would address the team’s weaknesses identified during the competition, underlining that the primary goal of participating was to assess the squad’s strengths and areas needing improvement ahead of the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League season.
Despite the final loss, Wikki Tourists received accolades for their performance, walking away with a trophy and a prize of ₦500,000. The team has returned to Bauchi and will resume training on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, as they continue preparations for the upcoming season.
