Bauchi to Construct Cement Factory in Gwana, Alkaleri
The Bauchi State Government has announced plans to construct a cement factory in Gwana, located in Alkaleri Local Government Area, as a strategic effort to boost the state’s economy.
According to the State Commissioner for the Ministry of Natural Resources, Muhammad Maiwada, the factory will have an annual production capacity of 10 million tons.
This initiative, valued at approximately $1.5 billion, aims to stimulate economic growth, create substantial employment opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
With an expected operational lifespan of up to 100 years, the project is set to employ over 10,000 skilled and unskilled workers across the state, addressing unemployment and offering career opportunities to local communities.
In addition to the factory, the project will include a 250-unit housing estate for staff, a 150-megawatt power plant powered by coal and gas to supply energy, and a large trailer park accommodating over 3,000 trucks.
The government has also outlined plans to provide scholarships for citizens to study abroad, cultivating a skilled workforce to sustain the industry in Bauchi.
This investor-funded project, following extensive consultations with Resident Cement Company and its Korean partners, aims to lay a solid foundation for Bauchi’s long-term economic development and attract future high-value investments.
