21-Year-Old Arrested for Staging Fake Robbery to Sell Tricycle in Bauchi
Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 21-year-old man who allegedly orchestrated a fake robbery in an attempt to sell a tricycle that was entrusted to him for commercial use.
The suspect, Muwafaqa Auwal, along with three accomplices, was apprehended by police operatives at the ‘C’ Divisional Headquarters on August 20, 2024.
The incident unfolded in Madina Quarters, where the tricycle, registered as BAU 401 WB with body number 3566, was found in suspicious circumstances.
Concerned residents reported the matter to the police, leading the Divisional Police Officer to quickly dispatch a team to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers caught the four men in the act of dismantling the tricycle, apparently preparing it for sale.
Investigations have revealed that Auwal, who had been entrusted with the tricycle by a neighbor for commercial operations within the metropolitan area, concocted a plan to fake a robbery and sell the vehicle for personal profit. His plan, however, was foiled by the swift intervention of the police.
The Bauchi State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state and has urged citizens to remain vigilant. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to assist in the fight against crime.
SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer for Bauchi State Command, confirmed the arrests and indicated that the suspects would be charged in court soon.
This incident underscores the importance of community-police collaboration in preventing crime and ensuring justice.
