On July 3, 2024, a disturbing case of child abuse was reported in the Gwallagan Mayaka area of Bauchi. A five-year-old boy was found chained and unconscious in a room by a concerned neighbor, prompting immediate police action.
According to reports, at around 5:05 PM, a resident, Amina (name changed), informed the ward head of Gwallagan Mayaka that she had discovered her neighbor’s son, Hussaini Abubakar, tied with a chain. The boy was lying unconscious inside a room. Amina had initially been alerted by another neighbor.
Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives led by CSP Mubarak S. Baba, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of D’ Division (Dutsen Tanshi), rushed to the scene and rescued the boy. The young victim, Hussaini Abubakar, revealed that his biological father, Abubakar Nuhu, also known as Wanzam, had confined him without food for several days.
The Commissioner of Police for Bauchi State, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, immediately ordered the arrest of Abubakar Nuhu. During interrogation, Nuhu, 50, claimed he had chained his son to prevent him from stealing from neighbors, following advice from a friend.
CP Muhammad has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation into the incident and any potential underlying motives. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation in identifying and reporting such heinous acts, urging citizens to remain vigilant.
The Bauchi State Police Command expressed gratitude to the public for their vigilance and urged continued support in reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency toll numbers: 08151849417, 09053872273. CP Muhammad warned against any form of child abuse, reiterating the police’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society.
