Don’t misappropriate food items meant for students, Bauchi Commissioner tells principals

Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Dr Jamila Dahiru has convened a meeting with principals, storekeepers and food masters in all boarding secondary schools across the state warning that food items meant for the students must not be misappropriated.

The meeting which was held on Friday, focused on tackling issues of misappropriation of food items, ensuring quality and quantity control and enforcing timely feeding schedules for the students.

Dahiru emphasised the ministry’s zero-tolerance policy in the administration of the schools stressing that it was in a bid to address food supply concerns at boarding schools.

According to her, misappropriation of funds and diversion of funds allocated for perishable food items will not be tolerated any more.

She added that issues of Inflated figures, and submission of false or exaggerated figures for food supplies will be met with stiff consequences.

Also, delayed or incorrect reporting will be sanctioned while timely and accurate reporting of any irregularities in the direct feeding programmed is encouraged as it is very crucial.

The commissioner stressed that late retirement of funds as well as funds allocated for perishable food items must be utilised and accounted for promptly.

Dahiru added “The ministry will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against anyone found engaging in these practices. Our top priority is the well-being of our students, and they deserve access to quality and adequate meals.”

She then emphasised the importance of trustworthiness and transparency among school officials responsible for food management.

She also expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his continuous support in ensuring timely food supplies and overall improvement in the education sector.
