The Association of Deaf Muslims in Nigeria (ADMUN) has appealed to the Yobe state government and federal governments to build a boarding Special School for Deaf people in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
The Amir for Yobe State Association of Deaf Muslims in Nigeria, Mohammed Abubakar Lulu, made the call on Sunday while briefing journalists on the on-going 32nd annual da’awa camp and National Conference of Deaf Muslims in Nigeria.
The conference with the theme, “Present challenges in the lives of Deaf Muslims and the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Government ” is being held at the Government Girls Unity College, Damaturu.
Lulu, said the aim of the da’awa and the national conference programmes “is to spread Islam knowledge across Nigeria.”
He urged the general public to be aware that the Association “is conducting the camp annually” and that there were many challenges they were facing, “especially in the areas of funding.”
“Many people promised to help us, but failed to fulfill all the promises they have made. So, I appeal to the government to consider us so that we can see to the end of the camp successfully.
“The other challenge we are facing is in the area of education; we have advocated a boarding special school in the Yobe state capital, but the Deaf have nothing to do and nothing has been done yet in terms of assistance” he said.
