BREAKING: Bauchi Police Arrested ATBU Students for Theft
Two students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, have been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command on charges of criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the suspects, Bamusa Mohammed Bako, a 25-year-old 400-level student of Urban and Regional Planning, and Yusuf Umar, popularly known as Danfari, a 28-year-old 500-level student of Industrial Design, were apprehended following a tip-off from an anonymous source.
The alert came on the morning of 26th September 2024, at around 10:00 AM, when the police were informed about an altercation at the Yelwa Campus of ATBU. The students were reportedly assaulted by a group of their peers, prompting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Yelwa and a team of detectives to intervene and investigate the situation.
Preliminary findings revealed that earlier the same day, around 3:00 AM, the suspects allegedly broke into the residence of Raji Rabi’u, a 28-year-old 400-level student of Estate Management. Items reportedly stolen from the residence include a 32-inch Hisense TV, a DSTV decoder, a woofer, a speaker, a pair of shoes, a blanket, and a prayer mat.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, claiming they intended to sell the stolen items to fund their final-year project defence. They are currently in police custody, and authorities have assured that they will face prosecution once the ongoing investigation is completed.
The Bauchi State Police Command has called on the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to law enforcement. Citizens can also make complaints using the police’s “Rescue Me” app or contact emergency numbers 08151849417 and 09053872273 for swift assistance.
