PWDs Calls for Dr. Halimat’s Appointment as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs
In a heartfelt plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria’s disability community and other vulnerable groups have rallied behind Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho, advocating for her appointment as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Representing the voices of approximately 35 million Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the nation, Ambassador Festus Zenda, a prominent advocate for PWDs, expressed deep concerns over the vacuum left in the ministry following the removal of former minister Betta Edu. The community fears that the absence of a substantive leader has left millions of vulnerable Nigerians without the essential support and programs they desperately need.
“The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs plays a crucial role in supporting the poor and vulnerable citizens of our country. Since the departure of the former minister, these groups have felt the absence of leadership profoundly,” Zenda stated. “We are now at a critical juncture where immediate action is needed.”
The disability community has put forward Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho as the ideal candidate to fill this void. Known for her unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes, Dr. Halimat has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to the welfare of Nigeria’s most disadvantaged citizens. Her work in various philanthropic endeavors has earned her a reputation as a tireless advocate for the poor and marginalized.
“Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho is more than just a leader; she is a friend and a heroine to the poor and vulnerable,” Zenda continued. “Her kindness, generosity, and impartiality have made her a trusted figure among those in need. We believe that her appointment as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation will restore our hope and give us the sense of belonging we desperately seek.”
The disability community’s endorsement of Dr. Halimat is not just a call for leadership; it is a call for compassionate governance at a time when it is needed most. As Nigeria continues to grapple with economic challenges, the role of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has never been more critical. The community is urging President Tinubu to act swiftly, appointing a leader who truly understands and is committed to addressing the needs of the nation’s most vulnerable.
“Only Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho can bring the much-needed relief and support to our lives,” Zenda concluded. “We trust her to champion our cause and work tirelessly for the betterment of the disadvantaged in Nigeria.”
As the nation awaits President Tinubu’s decision, the call from the disability community serves as a reminder of the importance of inclusive and empathetic leadership in tackling the pressing issues facing millions of Nigerians today.
