Bauchi Police Arrest Suspect Murder of 60-Year-Old Woman
The Bauchi Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the brutal murder of a 60-year-old woman in Yelwa Village, Bauchi metropolis.
The suspect, identified as Adamu Alhassan, was apprehended following a thorough investigation that traced his footprints from the crime scene and led to the recovery of the weapon used in the attack.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, detailed the incident in a statement released on Monday. The report was initially filed on July 7, 2024, at around 1:00 AM by Aliyu Yunusa, a resident of Yelwa Village.
Yunusa reported that unknown assailants had broken into his mother’s residence and attacked her with a dangerous weapon. The victim, Safiya Yunusa, sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Toro General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
In response to the report, a police team led by the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) was dispatched to the scene. Following collaborative efforts with local vigilante groups and Fulani leaders, Adamu Alhassan was arrested. Key evidence, including the weapon used in the crime, was recovered.
Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has ordered a discreet investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). Alhassan will be transferred to the SCID for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
CP Mohammed also urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying any additional suspects involved in the crime.
