Students protest in Bauchi over security concerns
The students of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi residing in the Gwallameji community took to the streets today, blocking the federal highway along the Bauchi-Dass road in a protest triggered by security concerns.
The protest erupted after a group of hoodlums reportedly broke into student residences, robbing and injuring a resident, Cletus Chomo, 50, of Sarauniya Lodge, Gwallameji. In response, police teams from ‘E’ Division, along with tactical units, were swiftly deployed to the scene and managed to restore order.
Contrary to circulating rumors, one of the victims, who was stabbed during the incident, was immediately taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
In light of the unrest, authorities have urged parents and guardians to counsel their children against participating in activities that could lead to public disorder.
The Commissioner of Police for Bauchi State, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, issued a stern warning to individuals intending to disrupt public peace, emphasizing that such actions will not be tolerated. He has instructed area commanders and Divisional Police Officers to implement stringent security measures to prevent any attempts to disturb law and order.
The Bauchi State Police Command called on citizens to support their efforts in combating crime and maintaining safety. Law-abiding residents are encouraged to continue their daily activities without fear and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
