Two years after commissioning, Azare Ultra-Modern Market remain dormant

The construction of Azare Ultra-Modern Market in Bauchi State, which includes 648 shops, warehouses, a poultry section, cold rooms, and facilities for fire service and security, has experienced significant delays, remaining dormant for two years.

The Bauchi State government had asserted that the market would boost the state’s economy, create job opportunities, and generate revenue, thereby reducing the state’s reliance on federal allocations.

However, despite these promises, the project was halted, and there has been no further information or updates from the authorities regarding the plans for its completion.

Some attribute the delays to inadequate planning and oversight. Saying poor project management and lack of clear planning leade to significant delays and may even the abandonment of projects.

Others believe the delays may be due to insufficient funding or mismanagement of allocated funds, which stall progress indefinitely.

Additionally, issues with contractors, such as disputes, lack of capacity, or inefficiencies, have been cited as potential factors contributing to the significant delays in construction.

Residents of Katagum have called on the Bauchi State government to address these issues and prioritize the completion of the Azare Ultra-Modern Market. They believe that finalizing this project would provide substantial economic benefits and establish it as a premier market in the North-East region of Nigeria.
