ATBU matriculated 6,102 students, commence degrees in Veterinary others

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ATBU Bauchi has matriculated 6,102 students and also commenced degree programmes in Veterinary Medicine and Procurement.

The Vice Chancellor of the Institution Professor Muhammad Ahmad Abdul’azeez stated this during the combined matriculation ceremony for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions held at Yelwa campus.

Professor Muhammad Abdul’azeez represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics Professor Sani Usman Kunya said the introduction of procurement courses is to fill the skills and knowledge gaps that exist in private and public sectors of the economy.

He said that the courses designed under the TETFund established Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards – Centre of Excellence SPESSE-CE, would develop sustainable capacity in managing procurement, environment and social safeguards in the public sector.

The Vice Chancellor warned the matriculants that lazy and truant students may find it difficult to fit into the university community, as anyone found engaging in social vices such as drug abuse, examination malpractice and cultism would be kicked out.

“It is significant to inform you that the University has zero tolerance to certain vices such as drug abuse, examination malpractice, cultism and truancy”, he notes.

“The University will not hesitate to show uncompromising students out and hand over criminality minded students to the law enforcement agencies to take appropriate actions on them”, Abdul’azeez warns.

Abdul’azeez disclosed that a total of 6,106 students were admitted across eight faculties and one Centre, with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and SPESSE- Centre of Excellence having their first set of intakes.

“Let me give a breakdown of all matriculating students according to their faculties as follows:- Faculty of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology 279, Engineering and engineering technology 1544, Environmental technology 1218, Management Sciences 702, Faculty of Science 1652, Technology Education 462, Veterinary Medicine 76, SPESSE- Centre of Excellence 105, Medical Science 60”.

Meanwhile, the Registrar of the University Hajiya Aisha Idris who administered the Matriculation Oath to the students, noted that the exercise is mandatory as provided under laws and statutes governing the institution.
