Bauchi police arrest six suspected armed robbers

The Bauchi State Police Command has said its detectives have arrested six suspects who are allegedly members of an armed robbery syndicate terrorising some parts of the state capital.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, disclosed this in a media statement made available to journalists in the State on Tuesday.

Wakil said the syndicate armed with machetes and torchlight conspired with five others at large and invaded two houses in Unguwan Kashu and Sabon Gida areas of Bauchi state capital.

He added that they carted away one LG TV ’32’ flat screen, one Samsung Galaxy A51 phone and one Itel keypad phone.

According to him, one of the suspects confessed to having raped a 23-year-old student of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, during an armed robbery operation at their (victim’s) Lodge in Gwallameji.

He said, ‘On 25th December 2023 at about 1.06 am, detectives attached to E Divisional Police Headquarters Yelwa area led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Yahaya Yunusa, on a tip-off information swiftly swung into action and arrested the following suspected syndicate of armed robbers:

“Abdulgaffar Abdullahi, male (20) aka Jijiya of Sabon Gida, Yelwa; Ahmed Abdulkadir, male (19) aka Kurumbo of unguwan kusu; Zakaria Saidu, male (21) aka Verati of Yelwan Lebura; Umar Abdullahi, male (18) aka Yahoo Boy of Yelwan Lebura; Musa Saidu, male (19) aka Baba Eru of Sabon Gida and Musa Mohammed, male, aka the boy of Gwallameji.

“The accused confessed to have conspired with: Ibrahim Danlami, aka Gambu, of Sabon Gida; Abdulrahman Haladu, aka kyalli of Unguwan Kusu; Sirajo Hassan, aka ciwo of Sabon Gida; Ado Hassan, aka Babba of Sabon Gida and Guntu Fari, of Birshin Fulani, all males and still at large.

“They armed themselves with machetes and touch-lights and invaded two separate houses of one Victor Amos, male (41) of Unguwan Kashu and Dorcas Denis, female (25) of Sabon Gida and carted away the following items; one G TV ’32’ flat screen, one Samsung galaxy a51 phone and one Itel keypad phone.

“During interrogation, the fourth suspect, Umar Abdullahi, confessed to having raped Peace (not real name), a female (23) a student of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, during an armed robbery attack at Peace Palace Lodge in the Gwallameji area of Bauchi, precisely on 9th December 2023, where the accused invaded the victims lodge rape her and robbed her Infinix hot 8 mobile.

“Additionally, all the suspects further confessed to have been responsible for terrorizing communities around Gwallameji, Rafin Zurfi, Unguwan Kasu, and Millennium quarters in Yelwa area Bauchi.”

He said that exhibits recovered from the suspects include one LG ’32’ flat screen, one dagger, three torch lights, three machetes, one Itel keypad phone and the sum of N5,910.

Wakil added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Muhammad, has directed that the accused be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, for discreet investigation, after which the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation for prosecution.

“Finally, members of the public are enjoined to cooperate with the Police as the Command is firm in discharging its statutory duties and ensuring that Bauchi State citizens sleep with their two eyes closed,” he assured.
