WCS Nigeria Trains 71 Rangers To Guard Yankari Games Reserve

Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Nigeria has conducted a refresher training for seventy one Rangers with the mandate of guarding Yankari Games Reserve against miscreants.

At Rangers’ Passing Out Parade (POP) which took place within the premises of Yankari Games Reserve, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State, Auwal Musa Muhammad urged them to be disciplined, dedicated and professional in their conduct.

CP Auwal Muhammad represented by the Area commander Bauchi Metro, ACP Ahmad Madigawa said dedication and discipline was the watch words for all the trained Rangers.

Speaking, the Country Director, WCS Nigeria, Mr Andrew Dunn said the organization had in 2015 offered the first training for the Rangers and is conducting a consecutive refresher training for them every two year.

Mr Dunn expressed confidence on the trained Rangers, assuring continued capacity building to deliver on their mandate.

The Manager of Yankari Games Reserve, Muhammad Nasir Yusuf who acknowledged the contributions of WCS Nigeria, appreciated it for conducting the refresher training and urged them to sustain the momentum.

In an interview, the General Commander of the Yankari Games Reserve Rangers, Sulaiman Sa’idu assured that his team was fully trained and has the capacity to face any threat in and around the forest.

Sulaiman Sa’idu however said the Rangers were lacking sophisticated fire arms and appealed to the state government to provide same to confront kidnappers and other miscreants terrorizing the area.
